The Don Scott Memorial Foundation’s objective is to spread colon cancer awareness through the foundations various events in addition to supporting preventative programs (such as colon cancer screening) in order to reduce colon cancer instances in our community.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States, yet it is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. An alarming 60% of annual colon cancer deaths could be prevented if the population received its recommended screening. This simply means we aren’t doing a good enough job of getting the word out.
Although the greatest long-term impact can be had through prevention, the foundation is equally dedicated to assisting those who’ve previously been diagnosed. Through our personnel story we acknowledge there are numerous ways in which we can lend support for those going through the experience for the first time.
Don Scott Memorial Foundation’s four major colon cancer goals:
- Increase awareness for colon cancer prevention
- Increase colon cancer screening and early detection
- Increase access to colon cancer treatment and care resources
- Increase the quality of life for colon cancer survivors
